For those that didn't have the chance to know Allan, the photo depicts a determined young man as part of EDC's Espoir Team in 1997. Later that year in June, Allan won the Utah State Championship with his teammate Tyler Servoss finishing a squeaker third to Jay Smith. Rob drove the break of six including Tyler, Martin Grygar, Rodney Mena, Eric Marland, and one other. Uhl Albert and I kept the main filed in check with Uhl driving tempo and me covering attacks and protecting Allan. At the bottom of the finishing climb I told Allan to stay on Jay Smith's wheel and drop him at some point along the way. Allan and Jay soon bridged up to the remnants of the break except for Tyler who had dropped the break himself.
Allan was the consummate sportsman, thinking of his neighbors and fellow racers first, even when Levi Leipheimer at Little Mountain told him when Allan made the break with four other RMCC riders,"listen son, we can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way," Gulp! Allan was fifth.
We miss you man!
